Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance takes place three years after the Guns of the Patriots. War is no longer a business for the PMCs. Or so the people say. However, A new Cyborg technology that leaks out of the US tips the balance, and violence is ripping through the fragile peace once again. The cyborg soldier Raiden has to face his strongest foe yet. He is attacked by an army of cyborgs from the Desperado Enforcements. During battle, Raiden loses his left eye and left arm. Desperado has taken control of Abhaasia. Raiden's company, Maverick, accepts the job from Russia to take the country back. With renewed armour and more powerful Cyborg parts, Raiden charges into enemy territory to fight Desperado, and to avenge his honour.

Rising's stealth elements will emphasize Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth."

Gameplay will focus on two key elements: swordfighting, and a style of stealth that is more fast-paced and action-oriented.
